  • San Francisco and Marin Food Banks Short 1,800 Turkeys

    November 5, 2013 - It’s just not Thanksgiving dinner without the turkey, and the San Francisco and Marin Food Banks are short 1,800 birds this year.

    The Food Bank is committed to providing 2,500 turkeys to social service agencies including the Salvation Army, Walden House, Grace Cathedral and the St. Vincent de Paul’s Dining Room in Marin, who in turn cook Thanksgiving meals for the hungry.

  • Families Face Automatic Food Stamp Reduction Nov. 1

    October 22, 2013 - On Nov. 1, households receiving SNAP benefits will see an automatic reduction in the benefits they use to purchase groceries. Benefits, which are loaded monthly onto an electronic debit card, will be cut by an average $36 for a family of four.

  • 20 Bay Area Chefs to Transform Food Bank into Four-Star Restaurant

    August 12, 2013 - The Food Bank warehouse will be transformed into a four-star restaurant with 20 Bay Area chefs cooking for 400 guests. The fundraising event, named One Big Table, will take place at 6 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 21, in the Food Bank’s San Francisco Warehouse, 900 Pennsylvania Avenue.

  • Congressman Huffman tours Food Bank's Whistlestop senior pantry in Marin

    June 21, 2013 - Huffman toured the food pantry, served lunch to seniors, and spoke about his experience taking the SNAP Challenge, wherein he limited himself to $4.50 a day for food for five days, the average benefit for a Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) recipient.
