The Federal Government Shutdown and CalFresh/SNAP
The Federal Government Shutdown is still in effect, CalFresh benefits are delayed for the month of November. With the help of a local foundation, Crankstart, and in partnership with the San Francisco-Marin Food Bank, Mayor Daniel Lurie and the San Francisco Human Services Agency (SFHSA) are giving a one-time prepaid grocery card to San Francisco CalFresh households. This aid will help people buy healthy food and reduce financial stress during this time
San Francisco CalFresh households eligible for support will receive a letter from SFHSA that contains information on how to access their card. Letters will be sent in the first week of November.
For more information about the program, visit: CalFresh Emergency Aid | sfhsa.org
If you are in a household that is not eligible for the one-time prepaid card, and affected by the federal government shutdown, the Food Bank is working to help impacted community members. Please check the Food Bank’s Food Finder page regularly for updates about additional resources for accessing food in San Francisco and Marin. Details are being developed.
Note: New CalFresh applications will continue to be processed. CalFresh reports and renewals will still be due. If you need help to apply or to renew your CalFresh benefits, our team can help you! Please call us at 415-824-3663.
