An increasingly popular charitable vehicle, a Donor Advised Fund (DAF) is a great way to both simplify your charitable giving and facilitate your strategic philanthropic goals.
A DAF, which is like a charitable savings account, gives you flexibility to recommend how much and how often money is granted to the San Francisco-Marin Food Bank (or any other qualified nonprofits you choose to give to). You can recommend a grant or recurring grants now to make an immediate impact, or use your fund as a tool for future charitable gifts.
You can also make monthly donations via your DAF by recommending a recurring grant. Your gift can also be matched via your employer if they offer matching of charitable gifts.
Any questions about giving via your DAF? Contact our Donor Services team at (415) 282-1907 ext. 249, or email donationssf@sfmfoodbank.org.

Answers to common questions about donating to SF-Marin Food Bank through a donor-advised fund (DAF).
A donor-advised fund, or DAF, is a charitable giving account that allows you to contribute assets (such as cash, stocks, mutual funds, or even privately held business shares), receive a tax deduction, and recommend grants to nonprofits over time.
Establishing a donor-advised fund (DAF) can qualify you for an immediate income tax charitable deduction on your contribution. Assets in your DAF can also grow tax-free over time, increasing the impact you can make. Donating long-term appreciated assets such as stock, real estate, or mutual funds can also help you avoid capital gains taxes on these assets.
Yes, you can choose to recommend a one-time grant to SF-Marin Food Bank, or you can set up a recurring annual or monthly grant.
Yes, you can name SF-Marin Food Bank as the beneficiary of your DAF and establish a lasting legacy to help end hunger in our community. Monthly DAF gifts are especially powerful: they give us a reliable source of support throughout the year, which allows us to plan sustainably and be there for neighbors, today and in the months ahead.
Hunger is rising in our community. And with devastating cuts to SNAP and rising costs of food, gas, and rent, more families are turning to the Food Bank to help fill the gap. But we cannot meet the need alone. Your support is critical to ensure families don’t have to make impossible choices between housing, childcare, healthcare and food.
