
2020 California State Legislative Priorities:
Feed Kids:
SB 1417 (McGuire) — Expand the availability of universally free school meals by increasing school districts’ capacity to provide healthy school meals free of charge to all students through new, additional state subsidies for California-grown fruits and vegetables.
Support Food Banks:
AB 2243 (Eggman) — Extend the authorization for tax credits for donations to food banks to a taxable year beginning before January 1, 2027
$96M for to support food banks’ ability to serve increased demand due to COVID-19 pandemic
$32M to shore up food bank infrastructure to increase disaster resilience
Increase Food Budgets for Low-Income Californians:
SB 882 (Wiener) — CalFresh: Simpler for Seniors | Make it easier for food-insecure older adults and people with
disabilities to connect and stay connected to CalFresh
AB 1022 (Wicks) — Protect Californians Harmed by Federal Work Requirements | Provide a state-funded nutrition benefit for people harmed by the federal SNAP time limit and issue state guidance to maximize use of available waivers
AB 1593 (Reyes) — Extend California’s Earned Income Tax Credit to immigrants filing taxes using Individual Tax IDs.
AB 3072 (Wicks) – Require the Department of Social Services to issue guidance on maximizing CalFresh eligibility for people leaving jail or prison.
