Even before federal cuts to CalFresh, food insecurity in San Francisco and Marin was increasing, as more families struggled to cover basic expenses. Nearly 1 in 3 households in San Francisco and 1 in 4 in Marin don’t earn enough to meet their basic needs. Now, rising costs and shrinking safety nets are making it even harder for families to put food on the table.
Since 1987, the Food Bank has partnered with the community to innovate food assistance services that serve one mission: ending hunger together. See how your support has nourished neighbors and changed lives for the better over the years.
Good food is everything — and it’s just the beginning. We hear stories from neighbors whose lives have changed for the better because they can count on fresh, healthy food, 70%+ of which is fresh produce.
The need for our services remains high, and yet social safety net programs are eroding. It will take all of us to achieve our mission of ending hunger in San Francisco and Marin.
