New Trucks Help Keep Food Moving
December 5, 2012
Food Bank trucks are a familiar sight on the streets of San Francisco and Marin. Six days a week, the fleet of 17 vehicles is delivers supplies to pantries and picks up food donations from markets.
These trucks – and our busy team of drivers – are a significant reason we can distribute 45 million pounds of food in a year. Whether they’re pulling up at a pantry site or rounding the corner to our warehouse loading docks, there’s always a flurry of activity to get the truck unloaded and then back on the roads for the next task.
This year, we’ve been fortunate to receive two new trucks that are expanding our capacity. Feeding America helped facilitate the donations from Walmart and from the Idol Gives Back Foundation. The additions to our fleet have helped us increase service to residents of West Marin, quickly pick up fresh food donations from local grocers, and serve more than 144,000 people on an average week.
